The QUANOMET research line was developed by the participating scientists in a "bottom-up" process with the focus on purely technically motivated synergies and in an intensive discourse with the presidia of the two universities.
The research line "Quantum and Nanometrology" (QUANOMET) pursues the goal of establishing an internationally outstanding research network in metrology. With the Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt (PTB), the second largest metrology institute in the world, QUANOMET has a strong partner at its side, who is already structurally and personnelally connected with both TU Braunschweig (TUBS) and Leibniz Universität (LUH).
QUANOMET aims at the methodical further development of increasingly precise measurement methods in and with the help of quantum and nanosciences. QUANOMET thus has a strong interdisciplinary character, which will lead to a lasting and stronger interlinking between the two universities. Both locations have a strong infrastructure (LENA, HITec, LNQE) with new or under construction research buildings and research centres. It is to be expected that the QUANOMET initiative will in the long term create a coherently operating centre and thus an external perception of QUANOMET as a unit (also internationally), in which it is taken for granted that two strong partners (universities) will jointly determine the scientific agenda at a high level.
QUANOMET is not only a scientific field with great development potential, but also of great relevance for future technological development. Already now, approaches can be seen in the environment of this scientific centre that want to transfer new concepts of quantum and nanometrology into application.
