- Abstract
The MPEG-4 is a complete standard which includes video, audio, graphics, synthetic and natural hybrid coding (SNHC), and systems. The organizational and procedural framework in the development of the MPEG-4 standard is described. A tutorial description of the motion and texture coding tools in the current MPEG-4 video verification is provided with some promising new tools for motion and texture coding. Techniques enabling new functionalities such as content-based scalability and error resilience are also presented. The final chapter offers a broad view of the potential applications that will be enabled and benefitted from the MPEG-4 video coding standard.
