Abstract

Two different methods are used to determine the small-scale drainage flows in the area of an elongated hill. Besides a combination of field observations with empirical estimates, a numerical mesoscale model is adopted for this study. A comparison of the results obtained with these independent methods shows a fairly good agreement. The simulated temperature distribution is very realistic compared to the detailed observations. The same is true for the nocturnal drainage flows and consecutive variables like mass flux and cold air production rate.
