Abstract

The sensitivity of interferometric gravitational wave detectors (GWD) can be enhanced by signal recycling. The technique uses the properties of an optical cavity to enhance sidebands impressed on the carrier frequency (laser) due to the interaction of the laser field with the gravitational wave. The technique was used to realize a high-Q cavity with nevertheless broadband response (white-light cavity) to improve the bandwidth of future GWDs while maintaining the gain in sensitivity.
