Abstract

The considerable advantages associated with automated casting, such as an increased production rate, lower reject rates, higher casting quality, lower labour costs at the casting station and better working conditions, are fundamentally based on inductively heated, pressurised gas operated casting furnaces with stopper facilities for precise metering of the heats. The more recent developments include electronic monitoring of the casting process, which can be controlled as a teach-in process or by a closed loop. Further progress has been made with regard to the processing of magnesium-treated heats in casting furnaces and in the field of integrated treatment of heats in the casting furnace.
