Remarkable kinetic resolution of chiral β-keto esters by baker's yeast reduction

Abstract: The reduction of chiral β-keto esters with baker's yeast is described. Reduction of 10 yields highly functionalized diol 11 with excellent stereoselectivity and generates a useful intermediate for natural product syntheses.
