Abstract

A thrust plate unit for a motor vehicle friction clutch comprises an abutment ring (17) having a knife edge (19) and guided axially in a pressure plate (11) while supported by a plurality of wedges (53) on the pressure plate (11). The support takes place through oblique faces (49) (51) in a non-reversible manner, the wedges being displaced automatically either by centrifugal force, as shown, or by spring force (Figs. 3-5) in order to compensate for wear-caused deviations of position between the pressure plate (11) and a diaphragm spring (15) of the clutch. The thrust plate unit further includes a device (27) which also compensates for wear and is automatically adjusted to limit the maximum stroke of the pressure plate (11) with respect to the cover (7).
