Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the viability of B. tuberculata, a grasshopper species occurring in Alpine floodplains as its only refuges in central Europe. Because of being xerophilous, B. tuberculata requires gravel banks with sparse vegetation. Its abundance there is endangered by denser vegetation and willow thickets. Floods produce new gravel banks. Thus the survival of the population depends simply on colonizing these new habitats in time. The ecological system was simulated in order to estimate the effect of flood probability upon the mean life time. -English summary
