- Abstract
In HDPy-bentonite, highest sorption (Rd ∼ 4000 ml · g-1) was observed in samples with an alkylammonium ion application of 2 times of the cation exchange capacity (CEC), when bidistilled water was used as solvent. In the case of synthetic ground water (SOW), lower distribution ratios (Rd-values) were obtained. Great similarity between the sorption and desorption data was found with bidistilled water suggesting reversible sorption processes. Using SGW the sorption was found to be only partially reversible. According to XRD-measurements, the d001-values of the organo-bentonites increased from 1.48 nm to 4.55 nm in correspondence to the enhanced HDPy+ content of the samples. The observed shifting of the reflections indicates the formation of superstructured silicate layers.
