Abstract

With the increasing use of hairpin windings and fast-switching inverters, high-frequency effects occur in electric machines. These include parasitic common mode currents and resulting bearing currents. As countermeasures, additional components such as chokes and hybrid bearings are often used. This paper, in contrast, focuses on the winding design to reduce the common mode currents. In this context, not only well-known winding patterns are investigated in this paper, but new winding patterns are also derived for investigation. For this purpose, a search algorithm is introduced to find all feasible winding patterns considering both the manufacturing process and a desired electromagnetic winding design. All feasible windings are evaluated with respect to their common mode peak current. Furthermore, a statement is made as to whether or not the consideration of additional winding patterns offers optimization potential.
